The Dali Museum

Graphic Design Intern

July - September 2022 • St. Petersburg, FL

What I liked

I liked being able to work with the Art Directors! They were very kind and showed me the ropes about everything that I needed to do. Every day when I first came in, I would check in with the Art Director and we would make a list about everything that I'm working on and how far I was on each of them. Then, if there were any upcoming due dates, I would prioritize those and do the other things later.

What I wish was different

I wish it was paid, because I had to travel from Tampa to St. Pete every day. But since it's an internship, that's not always guaranteed.

Advice

Don't be afraid to ask for critique! Before submitting a final of any document to the main server, I made sure to ask the Art Director to make sure I wasn't forgetting any details. It really helped to get their confirmation.

Graphic Design Intern

January - April 2021 • St. Petersburg, FL

What I liked

Out of all my internships, this was by far the best experience. Not only was it great to learn about the museum's marketing, but I also received a lot of diverse and interesting projects to work on. The art director I worked under was always patient and willing to teach me things and progressively gave me bigger things to work on. Super friendly and welcome team to work with and I really wish I could've stayed longer than my allotted term. I had my hand in 70% of the latest exhibit campaign and really saw the progress once I left.

What I wish was different

Obviously, I wish this was a paid opportunity as I drove from Tampa to St. Pete during my time at The Dalí but I have no complaints otherwise!

Advice

Don't be afraid to ask questions because everyone is more than willing to teach you. I highly suggest this position to anyone who likes art history and fans of Dalí's work. You'll learn a lot about the art and the artist as well as so many corners of what makes up a marketing campaign.
