The Childrens Place

Sales associate

April - September 2021 • White Plains, NY

What I liked

I liked learning the system and feeling a part of something, once I got the hang of all of the tasks I was given, it seemed to fly by easier. The children that would come into the store were, for the most part, calm and behaved. This led me to talk to their parents to help them find what they needed faster, and also entertain the children while the parents were shopping.

What I wish was different

I wish the amount of staff was different. Due to the lack of staff, the staff that was there had to rely on each other to manage, rather than the managers. We would coordinate when we would take our breaks as well as who was folding and on the register. The store closed on September 25th due to the domino effect of Covid on malls and businesses. I would love to go back to this job due to it being local and my comfortability, unfortunately, due to the shutdown, that is not possible.

Advice

One piece of advice is to know the rules and policies. When a problem occurs, you have to take the steps that were taught to you in order to solve it, like when to get a manager, or the speech to give on the phone. The policies of the store are very important because they allow us to run functionally such as our break policy.

Store Lead

July 2017 - September 2019 • Carpentersville, IL

What I liked

The people that I worked with were all very nice.

What I wish was different

The pay was definitely not up to par with what my duties were as well as what was expected of my position.

Advice

Make sure you stick to the store policy even if a customer is trying to get you to make an exception for them.

Retail associate

August - December 2019 • Miami, FL

What I liked

I liked that the whole interviewing and hiring process was easy and interesting. The coworkers were also really great and we had many kind and fun managers to help us and teach us along the way. We learned a lot and overall it was a great experience to learn the different aspects of starting up a store and having it function well.

What I wish was different

I wish my salary reflected the amount of time and effort I put in for my work. I ran out of time to focus on my studies and was not able to sleep regularly due to the changing schedules. I also wish I didn't live so far away, the drive to and from work almost always reached 35-40 minutes.

Advice

I think this was a good first time job, however it was extremely difficult to focus on studies, and that was considering I was taking one easy online class. Id recommend an experience like this because I've learned how to open up and that it costs nothing to smile, and it makes all the difference when it comes to interacting with people around you.
