Camp Counselor

June 2018 • Bridgewater, MA

What I liked

Very challenging and rewarding job working with children with disabilities. The environment at The Bridge Center is absolutely amazing with all staff forming a community and helping one another, and also forming close relationships with individual campers. The position does require great patience with the kids but all of them are so much fun to be around. Really an amazing place to work.

What I wish was different

The only thing I can think of that i would want to change would be to more staff! We all rely on one another and the more staff we have, the better we can work to make sure campers are having fun and being safe.

Advice

It truly opens a new world view when working with this population, and can be a bit overwhelming at first, but getting to know the kids and other staff makes every day of work feel so fun and rewarding by knowing that you are making such a great difference in a child's life.

Therapeutic Riding Camp Counselor

June - August 2018 • Bridgewater, MA

What I liked

I loved working with a ton of different campers with ranging disabilities, and seeing them grow as horseback riders and become more independent and social as the weeks went on. It was the best summer job ever!

What I wish was different

Not a thing - I love this organization and would recommend the job to anyone who has an interest in supporting kids with disabilities in a therapeutic riding setting or in one of our recreation day camps.

Advice

Make sure that your days at camp are all about your campers, and your nights and weekends are all about self care.
