The Black Institute is an “action” think tank whose mission is to shape intellectual discourse and dialogue and impact public policy uniquely from the perspective of Blacks in America and people of color throughout the Diaspora. The Black Institute will translate the “think” in think-tank into “action” through three main strategic approaches: Knowledge, Leadership and Community. By partnering with academic institutions, The Black Institute will build Knowledge around Black issues by engaging in research, data gathering and polling. The Black Institute will foster a rigorous Leadership program which will include civic education, training and development. Finally, The Black Institute will partner with the Community to develop on the ground organizing and issue based campaigns. The Black Institute’s work focuses on four main areas, each of which has powerful impact on Black communities: immigration; education; environmental justice; and economic fairness.
