Camp Counselor

June - August 2021 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I love the community that was built among the staff, as well as the joy of helping kids learn math and making it fun for them. It's a super enriching experience and one that leaves everyone smiling at the end, wanting to come back.

What I wish was different

I wish it had been in person, but that was out of their control. The camp is just better in a physical space.

Advice

Make connections with the faculty there while you can, they can be a great resource later on. Also keep track of the students who seem to be struggling, usually they just need a bit more support.

What I liked

The closeness of all the staff and the students we worked with.

What I wish was different

The month was pretty intense and I didn't always know how best to take time for myself.

Advice

Trust the process, the camp knows what they're doing.

Math camp counselor

What I liked

Loved working with the kids, really great and helpful staff. The students are all really bright and it was so fun to do math with them. We did so many many math puzzles that were fun for the counselors as well as the students. And there were lots of other activities we did as well.

What I wish was different

Advice

Great experience, I did it more for the experience than for the money because I didn’t end up making that much after rent and all my other expenses. But I still loved it.

Career Counselor Intern

July - August 2018 • New York City, NY

What I liked

It was great getting to work with kids who shared my love of math. You got to learn how kids think about things and expose them to higher level math and even teach them some python.

What I wish was different

Advice

I recommend that you only do this job if you love math or coding because it is heavily focused on that. Also do not apply if you dont like kids.
