I loved working with the kids and being able to be a support system for some of them. I was able to give the kids a platform to speak, ask questions, and give them a space to grow.
What I wish was different
I wish we could have had more counselors. We were taking a large group of kids away from the camp with only three counselors. I also wish that the younger groups got the same treatment as the other kids.

This experience helped me prepare for my courses. I was able to get first-hand experience.

What I liked
I loved everything about this job. The management was extremely helpful and truly cared about their employees. I was also doing something I loved, helping students with special needs. I went to work everyday doing something I loved and there was never a dull moment.
What I wish was different
I wish I would have worked on my communication and leadership skills some more. I was the lead staff of the young adult group and I struggled with being able to talk to people if something needed to be done because I was too scared of what people would think of me or what they would say.
Advice
Always try something new and don’t be scared to step out of your comfort zone, humanitarian jobs will give you joy like no other.
