Intern at the American Pavilion at the Cannes Film Festival

May 2019 • Cannes, Alpes-Maritimes

What I liked

I loved being in the south of France interning with elite hospitality and event professionals. Seeing how a red-carpet event operates and having the opportunity to network with such hard working, successful people was an experience that has better prepared me for my future.

What I wish was different

I wish it was a paid position. The travel cost was expensive so it would have been nice to make some of that money back interning.

Advice

I advice students to just put themselves in a new environment. Test your limits and step out of your comfort zone. There is always an opportunity to meet someone new. Expose yourself to new scenarios and places and you will find the world really is yours.

Production Assistant and Video Production Intern

May 2018 • Cannes, Alpes-Maritimes

What I liked

It gave me the opportunity to learn and to see how films are distributed at a festival setting. I received many networking opportunities and was able to sit in on film round table and panel sessions where I received strong advice that I could use in the future for my career.

What I wish was different

I wish I had a little more knowledge about the film festival instead of being thrown into it. I feel like I didn't get to experience everything because I didn't know everything that they offered.

Advice

If you attend this internship, network. Networking is such a huge deal that will either make you or break you in the film industry.

Manager

What I liked

The position at the American Pavilion allowed me to gain leadership skills like being able to ensure other workers are following along with the day’s schedule. I even had the chance to meet with important people in the film industry that taught me things I didn’t know like film distribution, marketing, and new forms of media like Virtual Reality.

What I wish was different

Not sure. I enjoyed my time working there.

Advice

Visit around Cannes during your off hours, it will make the job feel more enjoyable.
