The Aerospace Corporation

Diversity and Inclusion Intern

June - August 2021 • El Segundo, CA

What I liked

I loved the culture and the projects that I got to work on. I never felt like "just an intern". My contributions were always highly recognized and I was introduced to everyone and anyone that I had an opportunity of meeting.

What I wish was different

I wish I would have had more of an opportunity to get outside of my department in terms of projects, but with limited time, I was not able to do so.

Advice

Go for it even if you don't have all the qualifications. By showing confidence and initiative, almost anyone is willing to teach you the skillset to get the job done.

What I wish was different

I wish there had been more contact and bonding with people within my team remotely, like there was in summer 2019 when the internship was in person.

Advice

Take opportunities to ask people in the company about their experiences. Communicate with your manager, especially if something is going wrong, because they want you to have a good internship experience. If you can, get to know other interns outside of work as well.

Technical Intern

May - August 2018 • El Segundo, CA

What I liked

I greatly enjoyed working at The Aerospace Corporation. They made a huge effort to get their interns involved with the company through intern events. I learned a ton about both the company and the space industry through talking with full-time employees and learning about other departments. The work I did over the summer was challenging and rewarding as well.

What I wish was different

I wish my work at The Aerospace Corporation was a little more hands-on. I found myself sitting at the desk most days working on my computer. I wish my internship position gave me more opportunities to work hands-on with hardware.

Advice

One piece of advice I would give about this experience is to make the most of the company by engaging with other employees. The best way to get a feel for The Aerospace Corporation is to reach out and get to know as many of the departments as possible.
