Texas Workforce Commission (TWC)

Administrative Assistant Intern

June - November 2021 • Austin, TX

What I liked

My experience with the Texas Workforce Commission has been highly rewarding, not providing me only with financial compensation, but also an inspiring perspective into work ethic, professionalism, committed approach and engagement, motivation, support, and maturity. Even further, it has exercised, developed, and polished my professional interpersonal skills, professional writing skills, and further acquisition of transferable and marketable skills. In conclusion, I would argue that an experience like this one taught me what I should be looking for when leaving college and heading into the professional world, as well as building value towards what type of professional I want to be and what mission I want to follow.

What I wish was different

Agency regulations that would have allowed me to stay for longer.

Advice

Be proactive and identify meaningful ways to contribute to team projects.

Accounts Examiner Intern

May - August 2018 • Shenandoah, TX

What I liked

The collaborative atmosphere was awesome! I really felt like part of the team and that if I needed help or wanted to ask a question, anyone in the office would be willing to talk to me.

What I wish was different

The work itself got a bit old after a while, as it was mostly just contacting employers via phone or email, but this was the first time interns had been at that office, so they might make improvements to the program.

Administrative Assistant Intern

May - August 2018 • Austin, TX

What I liked

I had a really awesome supervisor who was a young woman called Justine that helped me a lot throughout the internship. I really enjoyed everybody I worked with and hearing how everybody did their jobs from a day to day basis. It was also honorable to be the first round of interns they’ve ever had!

What I wish was different

I wish that I had written more about workplace policies that I learned about in HR since I think it’s a valuable thing to know in future careers.

Advice

I would encourage people to make sure to apply to as many internships as possible when seeking and do as many interviews as possible. You get a lot of expierence from that that you can use in your future!
