What I liked

It was a completely different environment that is honestly similar to that of TSU. You’re working with kids who have physical disabilities and giving them the best experience of a summer camp that you can.

If you have the opportunity to apply, DO IT. Even if it is just for one summer, I promise you’ll have a completely different point of view.

What I liked

I worked with children with physical disabilities, and those kiddos change your life for the better. This was actually my third summer back at TLC. I had the opportunity to work with over 150 different disabilities as well as children with epilepsy, burn victims, kiddos with Down syndrome, and children with type 1 diabetes. Not to mention, I worked with counselors from all over the world, and created those lifelong friendships. Australia, New Zealand, Scotland, Ireland, India, South Africa, etc. They say home is where the heart is, and mine is at Texas Lions camp

What I wish was different

I wish I would’ve started sooner. Those campers have my heart forever.

Advice

A lot of the campers experienced a huge amount of bullying because of their disability. For me, I always made sure I was there just to listen to them. When a kid is acting out or having an episode, that doesn’t make them a bad kid. You just don’t know what they may be going through.

What I liked

The atmosphere at the camp is unbelievable. The camp as a whole is a great community of people go get together to give kids an experience that they can only experience at camp.

What I wish was different

I wish I would have spoken up more about the things that I want to do with different activities.

Advice

It’s not for everyone it will test you in ways that you never thought of but if you do work here it’s an unforgettable experience and you begin to understand why many staff say that reason alone is why they come back. It not about the money at all it about the experience we get to give the kids.

The working environment was so positive and up-lifting. The work was very rewarding.

Advice

This is a very physically and emotionally demanding job, but it is highly rewarding and worth the hard work. Don't be afraid to be silly and give it your all.
