Orientation Leader
May - August 2018 • Kingsville, TX
What I liked
I loved being able to interact with all the incoming freshman coming to attend our university and getting to work along side fellow students to achieve our daily goals. Watching all of these students coming to attend our university and striving to achieve their goals and become successful is such a wonderful experience that I am proud to be a part of at this university.
What I wish was different
Having Orientation Leaders try each job available at least twice throughout all Orientations (i.e. Pick up the golf cart, stay in a certain room for college meetings, leading students to assigned rooms, etc.) that way each Orientation Leader gets the chance to try each job and not be stuck doing the same responsibilities throughout the whole summer.
Advice
Make sure to stay well rested and energized! There is always stuff to do and the days can be very long during two day orientations, It helps to go to sleep early at night after orientation and take advantage of the breaks given during the day so that you don't lose your energy or burn out half way through the day.

Graduate Research Assistant
May - July 2018 • Cotulla, TX
What I liked
I like that this job involved a lot of hands-on work. It was a great experience to handle various species and learn about their diet and behavior. In addition, much work was done out in the field that applied to the project greatly and making that connection between the species and their environment was very educational and rewarding.
What I wish was different
Only thing I would have preferred to be different is the male to female ratio out on the ranch. This would make the experience more relaxing and not so uncomfortable around my peers .
Advice
One piece of advice I would share is to not take the opportunity for granted. Make the most of every day and really retain all that you can while collecting data or being exposed to new information.
