TAMUK housing—moving crew

December 2017 • Kingsville, TX

What I liked

I love everything about my job, assisting students to accommodate their needs to secure their best interest in living away from home. I repair lights, blinds, ceiling and flooring tiles, almost everything in the dorm we try and fix ourselves before calling the plant workers. I enjoy going from dorm to dorm meeting new students and residents and getting to hear their experiences on campus.

What I liked

There was a large support base from the administration, parents, and staff. They allowed for free expression on lesson plans and kept the ratios between children and teachers low. Undergraduate Research Assistant

May 2019 • Corpus Christi, TX

What I liked

Flexibility and expanse of materials at hand. As an undergrad this was an amazing experience to have all the various machinery at hand and to be able to learn how they work.

What I wish was different

Not much, mainly wish I could have gotten more hours so I could have only worked this job instead of balancing two different schedules.

Advice

Always have your eyes and ears open at all times when on campus. Many professors who talk about needing help or whatnot are actually offering valuable undergraduate experience and potential jobs.

Research Intern

June - August 2018 • College Station, TX

What I liked

This opportunity provided a wide variety of experiences both related to career and personal development. Not only did I perform my own research, but I also participated in outside scientific research trips . This allowed me to grow with fellow participants and improve my teamwork skills. The environment I worked in for my research was also very ideal because my mentors created a comfortable space to work in.

What I wish was different

Overall this research internship went very well. The only difference I would have wanted was more time to connect and gain experiences.

Advice

A lot of my research required independent work on a topic I was not particularly familiar with. My advice would be to take the initiative to learn more about the research you're performing outside of what is provided to you as well as not being afraid to ask a lot of questions.
