What I liked

I liked that they had a wide variety of opportunities for volunteering, where we were able to choose from many different departments and shifts. We had to go through an orientation before we began, and I appreciated how we had different spokes persons from tenet to explain the different aspects of policy and hospital information.

What I wish was different

If I had to change something, I'd say that for volunteers there really isn't much technical training. The orientation consisted mostly of tenet legality and policy, but I feel like we should have also got a rundown of what is expected of us as volunteers and what we can and can't do. What I know about my position as a volunteer in the ER came from another volunteer from another shift, but there was no other volunteer in my shift to guide me.

Advice

For other students looking for volunteer opportunities, Emanuel medical center was a great option because of the flexibility in times and opportunities with clinical experience or just greeter/front desk. In addition, they accept volunteers 18+, whereas other hospitals required a minimum age of 25 and a committed contract of 6 months to 1 year minimum.
