Telsey + Company

Intern

May - August 2017 • New York City, NY

What I liked

Having the opportunity to sit in on auditions for different shows and getting to do roundtables with several casting directors.

What I wish was different

There were some days that I sat and did nothing all day because there were too many interns for us all to have something to do all the time.

Advice

Be assertive! They want you to get the most out of the internship so tell them what you want to do!

Casting Intern

May - August 2018 • Los Angeles, CA

What I liked

The internship provided an interesting look into the casting industry. I was allowed to sit in on certain casting sessions while also interacting with large names in the industry.

What I wish was different

Everything. This internship was an exceedingly rough one. The majority of managers were rude, with the exception of 2 out of the 9 people in the office. They never cared to really get to know me, referred to me as "intern" most of the time. Everything was a power move for them. Even though I was a decade younger than them and had never worked in casting, they spent every second they could demeaning and one-upping me. I was judged based on my economic standing immediately.

Advice

Don't intern at the LA office. Work in the New York office. Apparantly it is vastly different and they are very nice there. From what I've heard from people who worked in NYC, the office educated them and took the time to give them insight into how the industry actually works.
