The program itself is very well planned out as well as the management team. very supportive and learn so many skills.
What I wish was different
I wish it was in person, but no control of this since COVID-19 does not allow so.

What I liked
I like that it’s a very well organized program. You get exposure to real world work experience but also several activities for education and personal development time. Round tables and shadowing sessions really help you finding your way in the financial industry and knowing what you would like to do after college. Last year, fall 19/spring 20 we were on the building and this year fall 20/spring 21 we are working remotely, which was expected under these circumstances.

The atmosphere was amazing, the employees were wonderful, and the job was very adaptive to my needs.
What I wish was different
I would have liked more structure or a project to work on; I spent a fair amount of time during the days looking for tasks to do.
Advice
Be prepared for lots of setup at the beginning; a lot of permissions aren’t created when you sign on, so you will have to contact a lot of different departments.

Investor Services Intern
January 2019 • Southlake, TX
What I liked
I was able to gain insight into what the company has to offer as a whole. I got to shadow different departments and realized that I enjoyed trader the most. As a result, I now have a desk at the trade floor and get to network with the trade department as well as incoming interns and other various parts of the company. I was also able to take my SIE exam and pass it which will allow me to take my series 7 and 63 exams upon graduation in the summer.
What I wish was different
If I could change anything about my experience, I would have gotten out of my comfort zone sooner and networked. Other than that, I have no complaints.
Advice
Pursue the field that you are most passionate about. I always wanted to be a stock broker/trader. I used Ameritrade software before I even got to college, and it was a goal to get here.

What I liked
Everyone at TD Ameritrade is always there to help you, be it the people on your team or the senior most managers. The shadowing sessions allow you huge networking opportunities, the round tables give you a chance to question the senior most executives, the term project allowed us to solve a real TD Ameritrade problem which was challenging, but also very helpful in gaining real life experience. Talking to clients opens doors to a variety of questions, which you’ve never heard before but you learn to answer them, but of course help is always present! Great learning experience if you’re interested in knowing about the markets and the brokeerage industry!
What I wish was different
I wish I would have hung out with the other interns more because before you know it, it’s all over and everyone is in a different place! some people move to different cities, some move to different departments! Make the most of it while it lasts!
Advice
Just ask as many questions as you can! Make your network as big as possible! Don’t be afraid of not knowing something. We have all been there and we are all learning! Everyone is there to help you & everyone loves helping out. You’ll have more fun if you make it a learning experience!

What I liked
We learned a lot in a very short amount of time. There were a lot of fun activities as well for the interns, and the people at TD Ameritrade really make it fun and worthwhile.
What I wish was different
There was some differences in what was told to us at the interview and what happened. We expressed this to the HR department and they listened and seem to be working on making it clear.
Advice
This is a great company to network with, so have fun!

Risk Management Intern
April - August 2018 • Omaha, NE
What I liked
My team was amazing, they really cared about my career development as well as my personal development. Everyone was really friendly at TD Ameritrade and they treat you like an adult. The atmosphere was laid-back in my department and the people made coming to work fun!
What I wish was different
We were tasked with a project that we never got to see being completely just because the internship ended in August and the project was due in September. There were also times where we were just doing busy-work to kill time, the program could have been a bit more structured.
Advice
Go for it! TD Ameritrade really is a great company to work for, you'll notice that most people have been there for a long time and you'll know why once you're there. The company is structured and the people are super helpful. If given the chance, go for it! It's a good company to start off because they have a rotation program after graduation if you want to continue with them. They also are likely to extend your internship.
