Executive Intern

June - August 2019 • Mesa, AZ

What I liked

I was able to hone in my leadership style and gained a ton of confidence leading my team throughout the store. I also had a mentor who I consider to be my mentor for the rest of my career. I was able to have a lot of conversations with him about my struggles and strides with my team. Overall, I learned so much about myself and what I want to do with my career. I also had the opportunity to meet several regional directors and one of the Vice Presidents of Target.

What I wish was different

I loved my internship and don't wish anything was different.

Advice

I would say to not be afraid to be super open to feedback and learn from the feedback.

What I liked

It was a great experience getting to know every aspect of what it takes to manage a Target store. I also enjoyed getting to work with such a fun and dedicated team.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have spent some more time trying to lead new teams after I learned the basics of each department. This leadership time was limited throughout.

Advice

Make sure that you always thank everyone for everything they have contributed to your growth, even if it’s small.

What I liked

The staff were SUPER friendly and made me feel so welcome! If I ever needed help, anyone would drop what they were doing to help me.

What I wish was different

I wish I would’ve been able to work there throughout the entire semester, but commuting was putting a strain on my body.

Advice

Specifically the target I worked at really prepared me to be my own leader. My boss really made sure whenever I did something, that I knew why I was doing it and that no one was going to tell me otherwise.

Everyone welcomed me and no one had an issue with the amount of questions I had. It’s my first job and I can honestly say it’s better than what I expected.

What I wish was different

Some of the department management left a lot to be desired in terms of people skills. This has led to a lot of turnover with the entry-level employees.

Executive Team Leader Intern

June - August 2019 • New Port Richey, FL

What I liked

I liked the team that trained me, my mentor was amazing, and I loved getting the inside scoop on Target business operations. The work environment was really upbeat, there was always something to do. I learned that being an ETL (Executive Team Leader) at Target is not a 9-5 M-F job.

What I wish was different

I wish I had more time in certain areas of the store with my training but overall my experience was perfect.

Advice

My piece of advice for this experience would be to go into this and give it everything you got. I really challenged myself to take on an internship for leadership / management and I learned and did things that I did not know I was capable of.

June - September 2019 • San Mateo, CA

What I liked

I was able to improve on my problem solving skills as well as how to navigate conversations with unhappy customers. The General Store Team Leaders as well as my coworkers were super nice and made working there enjoyable. Plus the pay at this location is great for a student who is working at home and doesn't pay living expenses.

What I wish was different

I wish there were more employees on the floor that could restock returns.

Advice

Be patient with guests but try to make friends with people in other teams as it'll make your work at guest services easier.
