What I liked

I am still working at taco mac. I like that the hours are flexible and work with my schedule.

What I wish was different

I wished that the restaurant would stop hiring quantity over quality.

Advice

Take the negative and turn it into a positive. There is no such thing as the perfect job. I am learning to take the ongoing training as a way to become a better leader.

What I liked

My experience taught me how to work efficiently individually and with a team. The location I chose to work has the largest flow of customers in the company, so it was a high-stress environment but I learned to rely on myself to do my job well and to cooperate with my co-workers in a positive light. I also enjoyed the positive atmosphere that the management and workers upheld throughout my time working there. The workers here are well aware of stereotypes involving workers in the food industry and they combat that successfully with a focus on positive nature and pride in your work.

What I wish was different

I wish the schedule was more consistent. I worked varying hours through the night or during the day whenever it was needed or when I was called to work and it really impacted my ability to obtain internships for my major. I needed a consistent schedule to work with and my communication about this matter was never regulated or upheld by the management staff.

Advice

My piece of advice for anyone going into this field or this line of work is to know your limits. It is true that some individuals may thrive in the environment and the high energy and constant flow of work that is thrown at you, but it is not for everyone. If you know that this environment isn't for you then don't force yourself into something that will bring more stress then the job may naturally do.

What I liked

I liked the hourly wage and room for raises. Potential to enter management. During my time there I was also able to train as a server and gain experience. The community of employees and managers were enjoyable to be around.

What I wish was different

I would have liked to receive a small break during the 12+ hour shifts. It was tough working in a kitchen that was continually understaffed and low cook retention.

Advice

Work in a nicer kitchen!
