Freedom to make a difference in a startup environment. Exposure to several facets of a business and understanding of internal processes. I got to research industries and companies' innovation initiatives, which I thought was super cool.
What I wish was different
I wish there was more mentorship and the internship was more structured. Sometimes I felt like I was doing a bunch of busywork that would never actually be acted upon. It was somewhat difficult staying motivated because I was unpaid and not making much of a difference at times.
Advice
You need to have a vision and be self-motivated. If you can propose an initiative or change, they will likely let you expand upon it and try it out. Also, tell them what you're interested in and want to do - they'll usually listen.

I am learning a lot! I like how all tasks assigned are unique, so I have exposure to different aspects of the business. Michael, CEO and Founder, is an amazing boss!
