Swire Coca-Cola

Merchandise Displayer

May - June 2023 • Spokane, WA

What I liked

The overtime pay was really good, and the trainers I worked with were really nice.

What I wish was different

The schedule was hard for me. Waking up to start at 4 or 5 and never knowing when the day would end. Also not having days off. I felt like I couldn’t plan anything.

Advice

This is a great job if you’re looking for something very physical, and you’re a morning person. It’s important to start slow though, and make sure you’re being careful so you don’t hurt yourself.

What I liked

Lots of hours. High hourly wage. No previous experience required

What I wish was different

Working day shift would have been nice

Advice

It's good money, but I'm glad it's onky a summer job. It can be physically taxing especially on your shoulder.

Marketing/Merchandising Intern

May - August 2019 • Seattle, WA

What I liked

I enjoyed the diverse work environment that I was exposed to as I walked away with an array of new skills and a holistic understanding of the processes that occur within such a large company!

What I wish was different

I wish that I had been a little bit more informed about the job description going in so that I could better prepare for the position, however, I felt as though I was able to learn quickly and adapt accordingly!

Advice

I would advise students to not be afraid to apply to internships that go beyond the scope of their specific major. Within business, I feel that once a student has picked their concentration (marketing, management, supply chain management, etc.) they close themselves off to other fields (finance, accounting, etc.) regardless of whether or not they want the internship. I think I proved to myself (as a business law student) that with enough dedication and the desire to learn quickly, there isn't an internship that won't be in reach with those characteristics. Overall I would encourage students to apply to positions they are interested in regardless of their major!

What I liked

Learning the different parts of the business and establishing great connections.

What I wish was different

Although I made many connections, I wish I would have reached out to people in a higher position.

Advice

Be on time, listen to the people teaching you what to do, have a positive attitude, and get to know the people you work with.
