Swagelok

Manufacturing Engineer Intern

May - August 2024 • Solon, OH

What I liked

Everyone here at Swagelok was friendly and supportive in my personal development and growth. Questions were always encouraged and was able to tour several other Swagelok plants in the Solon area. Some projects I worked on include collaborating with shop floor associates to engineer improvements, updating Internal documentation for internal software, and reverse engineering of several parts. The company has a strong intern program with lots of opportunities to take advantage of.

What I wish was different

The introductory training videos we had to watch took a few weeks to complete and were outdated. Majority of projects were focused on mechanical and not electrical engineering. This provided a steep learning curve for the projects I was working on. I learned a ton in this role and enjoyed working with other engineers.

Advice

Some advice I would give is to ask questions when you are stuck. The people at Swagelok will be happy to help you and provide support. Also, attending the intern meetings and events are a great experience to learn more about different departments of the company. Relations with others are key and don't hesitate to get to know them.

Mechanical Engineering Intern

What I liked

The work given to me was actually valuable to the company and required me to use engineering skills that I had learned through my education. Also, good pay.

Advice

I would recommend applying to a Swagelok internship only if you have some prior work experience, as they give their interns a lot of responsibility and expect them to know how to work efficiently and effectively.
