SUNY Polytechnic Institute

Data Analyst

May - August 2019 • Utica, NY

What I liked

The Hours were flexible as long as I did work, wasn't too bad and I learned some new techniques as I went along with some coding! Worked a lot with MAT-LAB and EEGLAB.

What I wish was different

Advice

Try to have a supervisor with somewhat flexible hours, as data analyzing can be tedious at times. Very nice experience for those who are meticulous and like code work. A lot of times, work doesn't expect you to know everything, you learn as you go. As long as you can help and have interest in growing, don't be afraid of not knowing everything!

Summer Camp Instructor

July - August 2019 • Utica, NY

What I liked

Was able to teach kids ages K-12 about science, robotics, math, and even 3D printing. Also go to create the curriculum and day by day schedule for some of the camps I taught. I also worked along side some of my friends which was fun.

What I wish was different

I wish some of the camps were longer, once we got the kids going the day was almost over for a few of the camps. Some of the camps could have also benefited form another instructor or teaching assistant.

Advice

Keep the kids focused as much as possible and they will amaze you with their creative ideas.

Research Assistant

May - August 2019 • Utica, NY

What I liked

Participation in SURP 2019 was a great experience for me since I got to use theoretical knowledge acquired from the engineering courses, that I’ve taken in the past, and learned even more practical knowledge in geotechnical engineering field. I really liked being involved in this kind of scientific work - it inspired and motivated me to do only better and set higher bars.

What I wish was different

I wish the program was longer, so that we would have more time to work on the research and get more results.

Advice

If you will ever have a chance to participate in any kind of summer undergraduate research program, don't miss it - it is a great boost of experience, that will definitely have a positive effect on your future career.
