Shift Manager
December 2015 - August 2019 • Sarasota, FL
What I liked
I loved the atmosphere and independence of it. It was a good pace where I was able to stay busy and be able to get done all the things I needed to do. When it got really busy, it made time go by faster and you go into auto-pilot mode where you are just going and going. When it was slow, it was a nice break from the business. I was able to work on my own a lot and do things my way. I wasn't constantly under speculation and my bosses all trusted me. Mostly, I loved the management. They are so nice, accommodating, and flexible. They are so understanding about busy schedules and just life in general. Today, it's hard to find management that has all three of those qualities.
What I wish was different
I wish some of the employee attitudes were better. Some would show up in a bad mood and just make it awkward or bad for everyone else. Some didn't like to work at all and basically forced me to do it all by myself. It didn't bother me until we got busy and I actually needed them to stay on top of things and do their job. Some employees were definitely better than others and it showed.
Advice
This is the best first job for someone in high school or for someone who needs something part-time on the side. It's not too demanding and the work isn't hard at all. Anyone can thrive in this job if they just apply themselves.
