What I liked

I liked that I got to gain experience with a powerful customer resource management tool called Salesforce. It is used in a variety of different sectors and companies and now I can have a leg up as I look for work in this industry. A lot of mentors who seek to give me career advice seem very impressed that I have experience and certifications in Salesforce as they are all currently working with the application in one way or another. I liked how there was a lot more collaboration that I thought there would be in the field of IT. I also was given . a healthy level of independence in order to work on projects or come up with processes that would improve efficiency within our team.

What I wish was different

Not much, I was able to work with executives in different in different business departments and the heads of different companies. I made a lot of great connections. The only thing I wish I would have done was eaten lunch in the kitchen provided. It was a really nice space and I'm sure I could have connected on a different level with other coworkers and interns. I was too nervous to eat alone in the kitchen whereas most likely, someone would have come and joined me. Instead I explored the city which I absolutely loved.

Advice

People notice your work ethic. I would argue that having a good work ethic and a positive attitude is one of the most important skills that you can develop as a college student. Interpersonal skills (like how you interact with your boss and coworkers) are very important as people like working with people who are easy to work with. When working in the city, I used to out to eat for lunch every day because I could afford it. Towards the end I realized that it would be smarter to put that money into savings and bring lunches from home and eat out only every once in a while.
