What I liked

I enjoyed the state-of-the-art technology I used for my project. It felt like a true professional experience with the way everything was set up; I had my own desk and room in the building, worked 40 hours a week, reported to my project team multiple times per week, and felt like I was an integral member of the team. The people I worked with were the best part, as they were kind and welcoming and made the workplace more fun. Also, at the end of the summer there was an intern engagement event, where interns and coworkers went out to an arcade and lunch for the day.

What I wish was different

I wasn't introduced to a lot of people working in the same building at the time I started, but as the summer went on I got to meet more and more people. Sometimes I felt a little lonely in my room at work when none of my coworkers were working in there with me, but now that I know a lot of people there I feel better about getting to have a more enjoyable experience in that aspect.

Advice

Get to know the people working around you! I found that my daily work schedule was elevated when I got engaged in learning about other people's projects. At jobs that utilize different kinds of technology, there are so many cool and interesting things to hear about, and you might even hear about a project you'd possibly be interested in helping out with. In general, making connections and having a good time with your coworkers makes your time there so much more valuable. But don't forget to work, work, work!
