I liked the mentorship environment—it allowed me to learn a lot at a very fast pace. Stowers also coordinated fun activities in KC for all interns to attend and enjoy ourselves.
What I wish was different
There was an immense amount of pressure the interns experienced to complete a scientific project—some of us worked 12-14 hour days to ensure that it got done at a high quality. I would have appreciated a better work-life balance.
Advice
Ask questions! All of the scientists want you to learn all you can, so they will be more than happy to help you make the most of your experience by teaching you their field of expertise.

Summer Intern
May - July 2018 • Kansas City, MO
What I liked
There was plenty of resources for students to participate in first-hand medical researches, and that really expanded the skills and knowledge I had.
What I wish was different
I think so far it's been a great program.
Advice
Really come prepared to this summer research experience. And it requires full attention on what you are doing in the lab as well as your results.
