Camp Counselor

May 2018 - August 2019 • Boston, MA

What I liked

I love working with kids, and I was away for a month at the beginning of the summer (June-July) and was still able to work at the camp! They were so flexible with everyone’s schedule!

What I wish was different

It was a hard camp to work at just because of the nature of the camp (the kids get to do whatever they want) and so it was hard to do anything really structured with them.

What I liked

I liked that I was able to work with kids and help them learn how to do new things, like use a sewing machine or make a movie.

What I wish was different

Having an understanding about what it was gonna look like before camp started.

Advice

Try new things, the counselors are able to ry our new things with the campers.

Camp Counselor

May - August 2019 • Boulder, CO

What I liked

I really enjoyed the environment of working at a camp, because it really didn't feel like work at all. It also expanded my knowledge of working with kids as I continue studying elementary education at CU.

What I wish was different

I wish there were more counselors that were hired for the summer, because we often found that we were scrambling at times and needed more people to supervise when others were taking breaks.

Advice

Being a camp counselor is a very rewarding experience, especially depending on what type of camp you work at. It's really important that individuals go into this role with an open mind!
