Sterling National Bank

Human Resources Intern

June - August 2020 • Jericho, NY

What I liked

Gained valuable, practical experience in many different fields of HR, without ever shaking hands with any of my coworkers due to the internship being 100% virtual.

What I wish was different

There was limited interaction between me and the other interns, which is not the employer's fault but that was the only thing I wish could have been different.

Advice

Sterling is an innovative and efficient company, and everyone I spoke with was more than willing to help me further my career.

What I liked

I loved the company’s atmosphere, and their internship program in general. They had a calendar full of things for us to do each day.

What I liked

I really liked the exposure to the corporate world. I especially liked the way the internship was structured, while I had my mandatory assignments and projects I still did have plenty of time to explore new projects and network with individuals in the bank. I also had a great experience with the other interns everyone seemed to get along really well and actually helped each other out whenever we were each stuck on a problem in work.

What I wish was different

I personally wish that there was less mandatory training sessions as well as less mandatory events. Personally I wish that I had more time to work with the team I was assigned in since they were an amazing group of people and I really enjoyed the work I was doing.

Advice

I know it's a bit cliche but it is absolutely true: Whenever you have the opportunity to put yourself in a new situation absolutely go for. At the end of the day it is those experiences that ultimately result in you learning the most and being able to meet new people. One other thing is always be open to feedback, even if it's positive. It will put your never aside and allow you to ultimately focus your attention on the things in your agenda that need the most of your attention.
