Steps Therapy

Behavior Technician

May - July 2019 • San Francisco, CA

What I liked

I loved getting to know the kids and families I was working with, as well as the flexibility I had with my daily schedule at Steps. I also loved using NET (Natural Environment Teaching) and the incorporation of play into sessions, as it made the process both fun and beneficial to the kids I worked with.

What I wish was different

I wish company modes of communication had been better/more reliable, and I wish the commutes from home to home hadn't been so long or full of traffic. Also, the initial training for new technicians was fairly brief and didn't quite prepare me for the solo sessions I was assigned to run in my first week.

Advice

If you're looking for a career that is high effort, high impact, the field of Applied Behavior Analysis is a great one to be in! Getting to see kids learn and grow (even just over the span of a few short months) is extremely rewarding.

Behavior Therapist

May - August 2017 • San Francisco, CA

What I liked

I felt like I was challenged everyday at work with the different children i worked with. I loved my clients and I bonded with the children very quickly.

What I wish was different

I wish they had trained me more. It was a bit awkward to not know how to do therapy at all and then get thrown into client's homes.

Advice

If you are interested in psychology, this ABA experience is perfect for you. You get a ton of field experience.
