Engineering Intern

What I liked

I enjoyed the smaller office atmosphere that the company had. There are were 20 full time staff members for the entire location with different positions. They were able to have me do a large project over the course of the summer, with varying goal length projects sprinkled in. There were various activities that ranged from computer work and data analysis, as well as working in the lab. I was trained on several different machines, and they actively encouraged learning. My time with the company has greatly benefitted my outlook on future engineering jobs, and I hope to have a future with this company in the foreseeable future!

What I wish was different

Initially, there wasn't a significant amount of work and training available. This was offset by the fact that I went to several meetings each day in order to add work to my plate to assist anyone who needed it.

Advice

My one piece of advice about my experience would be to sample several different internships during the course of your college career. Not all companies have similar culture and work ethic, and it will be difficult to figure out what makes you feel welcome. Interning or co-oping with different companies allows you to find the right fit for you for your future wants and needs.
