Great experience working with a variety of adaptive sports and with a variety of age groups. STARS has staff that are fun to work with and their programing makes a positive impact on the community. It is a positive work environment and you get to spend a lot of time in and out of the office learning about how to implement adaptive sports. I got to assist with equine therapy, adaptive biking, hiking, water skiing, mountain biking, swimming, rock climbing and, canoeing/ kayaking. Truly an amazing experience.
What I wish was different
It would be nice if the internship was paid, but that was not necessary as housing is provided and I received a stipend to cover food expenses.
Advice
Apply with an open attitude to learning new things, meeting new people and making new friends.

What I liked
I liked being in charge of running day camps. It was a big leadership role that I took on and I had a great experience in this role.
What I wish was different
The organization of the program was sort of chaotic. I wish I was asked to help with scheduling days and activities so that I could have helped with making sure activities ran smoother.
Advice
Don't be afraid to meet new people and get hands on. The best way to learn about adaptive equipment and about disabilities is to try new things and make mistakes. Being comfortable with being hands on and interacting with clients and equipment is the best way to learn fast.
