Seasonal Temporary Worker

What I liked

Consistent hours, independence when working, outdoor work, using power equipment, worked in a variety of outdoor locations around the park. All of the rangers were great to work with and my boss was fun and flexible.

What I wish was different

I wish there were temporary or part-time opportunities available with the DNR year-round.

I wish the people I worked with were more mature, it was similar to being back in high school.

I would share that you need thick skin to work and a lot of patience because the people that work there have a clique and they don't easily take to new people.

Don't go into it with any serious expectations because you'll be asked to do a lot of different things and every worker's experience is different depending on shift, what you like, what you're good at, the day it is, etc.

What I liked

Loved the people and environment that I worked with and in. I got to work outside the whole shift, meet new people, and communicate with campers. I was also able to work of projects with the rangers that involved plumbing, electrical, wood crafting.

What I wish was different

Time in the office was more evenly dispersed and rangers didn't always take the same person with them to do jobs around the park.

This job helped me improve my communication, social, and critical thinking skills while still having a great time.

Museum Docent

I enjoyed the ability to practice a hands-on approach to history with students in a historical cabin, but I also enjoyed researching and designing three signs funded by a $5,000 grant.

I wish I would have had more time to research, plus a salary would have been nice.
