Sales Represtitive
May 2018 • Cedar City, UT
What I liked
I was able to grow as I learned the ins and outs of the insurance industry. I became licensed to sell auto, fire, health, and life insurance. All while being able to pay the bills, relieve all my debt, and have a little extra too.
What I wish was different
As a student, I don't have the freedom I used to have. I'm no longer able to travel home during fall, Christmas, and spring break. It's been incredibly hard having to grow up quickly and give up the freedom all my peers have. It's something that has made me play with the idea of moving forward with something else, even if I have to take a pay cut.
Advice
I would share with my peers to go out give it a shot at a "big boy" job. There's many opportunities out there to put your education to work and begin getting true work experience. There's no reason you have to take internships with no payment when you can get a job that pays you and helps you grow.

What I liked
I liked working for such a big company and learning what it's like to be part of the corporate world.
What I wish was different
I wish that I had been able to do more new projects. A lot of the work was similar to an internship that I have during the year at UK.
Advice
It's so important to try anything new! Even if you learn that you don't love it, that's a good thing. You don't know what you like to don't like until you try it.

Sales Intern

I wish I was in a bigger city. Some days were slow.
Advice
Insurance is an extremely viable career path for any business major. There’s no shortage of entry sales positions which are heavily commissioned. Being an agent is an option for any business leader. Plus, you don’t need to go in debt for any degree at all. Insurance is cheap to get an education in since it’s all licensing and online class and takes less than a year to be a fully licensed sales rep.
