What I liked
The organizers in charge of the Participatory Defense team are both strong leaders who are extremely knowledgeable and equipped in their field. I believe this is a powerful community-based organizing strategy that deserves recognition and awareness in the Inland Empire community! As an intern, I have taken the time to research a plethora of information such as resentencing laws, mental health diversion, the Brady rule, etc. I also enjoyed actively listening to the powerful testimonies and connecting with families who are going through the court process. It has been an amazing experience thus far and has given me the strength and passion to pursue law school once I have finished my graduate program. The greatest reward of all, however, is being involved as an active member of my community.
