I liked how I got to meet students and interact with them in a safe environment and help impact their lives by helping them learn about college and higher education because most of the students come from low-income, first generational families and seeing their smiles was just awesome. In addition , working collaboratively alongside with the director of the program and my office co-workers was an amazing experience as it opened my eyes about what goes on in the program and makes me thank the program even more, especially when I use to be in the program.
What I wish was different
If I had more exposure to the high school students so that I could learn more about the experience of working with students from different backgrounds and of different ethnicities. I wish I could have been more involved in classroom activities even though I was spent the majority of my time in the office and storage room.
Advice
The office job is nice because you get to meet and get to know the advisors and the director very well, and work collaboratively with the other office staff. It has also improved my skills with technology and the things that happen behind the seen in a program that works endlessly to provide a higher education beyond high school for students. Also, to interact with the students so that you can also benefit from making connections with them.
