I loved working with new faculty members who were also passionate about the same topic I was, in this case it was nonprofit grant funding.
What I wish was different
I wish my experience was longer so that I could reach more individuals for the survey.

What I liked
I was able to learn about my community through a new lens and use two current issues: the Black Lives Matter movement and COVID-19 to open my eyes to the racial disparities in health that have existed for many years now.
What I wish was different
I wish that I had finished my literature review sooner so that I could have had a manuscript finished by the end of summer.
Advice
In order to do research- specifically with social science, you have to be open to learning new things, accept the fact that you may be ignorant or unaware of some things and willing to make change.

Hands-on research and exposure to lab techniques. Exercising autonomy in the lab setting and troubleshooting results.

Longer experience. It only was through the summer.
Advice
Know yourself. I loved this experience because it is related to what I want to do after graduation. I knew I would enjoy it because I do ongoing research doing the school year so the challenges were expected.

I wish I would have had more time. There was so much left to research and learn.

What I liked
I liked having the experience and freedom of working on a scientific research project full time.
What I wish was different
I wish I had been working with a peer. My project was a large task to take on alone. Another researcher on the project really would have optimised time and made the experience more social and efficient.
Advice
If you are thinking about graduate school in a science related field I would consider applying to this program as it gives you a feel of what graduate school could be like.
