SSAB Americas

Refractory Summer Help

June - August 2019 • Axis, AL

What I liked

I encountered a highly skilled group of knowledgeable people who were friendly and willing to teach me about things both relevant and irrelevant to my current task. Even well outside of my field of study, people were happy to tell me about their work, the significance of small details to the overall operation, and more. I very much enjoyed working around the folks at SSAB.

What I wish was different

I only wish I had been able to work for longer, or to have continued my work remotely.

Advice

Don't pass up what may seem like an uncomfortable environment (e.g. a steel mill) in favor of a comfortable one; you never know who you may encounter or what you might learn from the experience.
