SRC, Inc

Cybersecurity Intern

July - August 2022 • Syracuse, NY

What I liked

Everyone I talked to from full-timers in other departments to other interns were extremely friendly. Got exposure to the security tools/software the company uses and had a lot of flexibility for what I wanted for my second project.

What I wish was different

Slightly earlier start date and better communication regarding things like intern presentations

Advice

To reach out and do events. There was a speed networking event which I enjoyed and went bouldering with some of the guys at SRC's climbing club once which was fun

Systems Engineer Intern

May - August 2022 • Syracuse, NY

What I liked

I liked the flexible work schedule, the welcoming community, and the mission that SRC Inc strives for!

What I wish was different

I wish that people would work in the office more as it tends to be very silent throughout the building during the summer time. The cubicle area that I was in was eerily quiet and the light would turn off often because no one was around!

Advice

Ask a ton of questions, be confident in yourself and keep your head up! The few months at my internship is just a brief look at the work place, but it is not how everyday is going to be!

Computer Science Intern

May - August 2022 • Dayton, OH

What I liked

I was given tasks as part of a larger team. The project me and another intern were working on was somewhat independent but we had guidance and were part of a larger project and software repository. We went through the normal code review process and got good experience with that. Engineers were always willing to answer questions and help with problems. Our project has a clear impact on the future of the project and it is very likely it will be continue to be used into the future.

What I wish was different

I do not have any complaints about the experience.

Advice

If you work hard you will be appreciated and you will see an impact on the company because of your work.

EW Systems Engineering Intern

May - August 2019 • Charlottesville, VA

What I liked

The team I worked with was very intelligent and helpful. I felt welcomed and encouraged to complete my projects.

What I wish was different

The office could have had more interns. This office was an offsite location from the headquarters, so it was a little smaller but I wish there could have been more interns to work with.

Advice

What you put into it is what you'll get out of it. The internship at this office is relatively new (I was in the first round of interns) so you have a lot of freedom to make it what you want.

Software Engineer Intern

August - December 2018 • North Syracuse, NY

What I liked

The people and projects are awesome. Everyone there was extremly supportive. Every coworker I had was more then willing to help me in any way they could. I would highly recommend this company for any intern or full time person

What I wish was different

Ultimately, I did not return to this company because I did not wish to stay in upstate new york

Advice

Go in with an open mind. Many of the topics will be very difficult to grasp for the first month or so. After the first month they topics become easier and the job gets a lot more fun!

Software Engineering Intern

May - August 2018 • Syracuse, NY

What I liked

I really liked that I was treated as someone that was a contributing engineer, and not simply an intern there to do "intern work". The work I was doing was meaningful, and often times immediately used by other team members or integrated into the main system. I also liked that the environment was focused around fostering growth and learning, it was very easy to find people who were willing to talk and teach about the topics in which they were skilled in.

What I wish was different

I wish it was easier to connect to the other interns that were working there.

Advice

Be prepared to apply your skills and knowledge, you will be treated as a junior engineer. Be prepared to listen to others and learn about the things you're working on.
