Sprouts Chef Training

Counselor and Non-Profit Intern

June - August 2018 • Oakland, CA

What I liked

Very free-form and relaxed office, and the staff are incredibly friendly. This is a great volunteer/intern position to take if you need to take a summer to relax. You will likely have the opportunity to cook outside, which is always nice!

What I wish was different

I wish I had inquired more thoroughly about the type of work we would be doing. From what I could tell, Sprouts' summer sessions are not representative of their overall mission - we spent the large majority of our time teaching wealthy Bay-Area children low-level cooking skills. We had one day a week working on our individual projects, which was personally a great opportunity to get started on research for the next semester. I would be prepared to guide yourself through the project, as the office is very small, and there were times when I was there alone.

Advice

Ask rigorous questions during the interview!

office intern

June - August 2018 • Oakland, CA

What I liked

I liked the job because I am passionate about working with kids and foods. It was a perfect balance of both for me.

What I wish was different

I wish that I had more to do on my office days. There was a lack of work in the office for everybody.

Advice

Don't be afraid to ask for accommodations even if it seems unlikely. If you never ask, you'll never get it.
