Spreetail

financial planning and analysis intern

June - August 2022 • Lincoln, NE

What I liked

I liked the openness of the company. Being treated as a full time employee and having co-workers take your opinions and treat them to the same level of respect as other employees get.

What I wish was different

I honestly do not think anything was bad about the experience.

Advice

Dive into new opportunities. Do not fear failure. The company understands that we are going to have less experience then everyone else. They still want interns to have the confidence to make decisions without being told what to do.

Software Engineering Intern

May - August 2018 • Lincoln, NE

What I liked

I was able to work on a team in the company and the work I did had a real, tangible impact on the company. I had a lot of creative freedom to work on what I thought was important the way I thought it should be done. As a first year student, I had very little experience and they were very understanding and were willing to teach me anything and answer all of the many many questions I had.

What I wish was different

I wish I would have explored other areas of software more, I stayed on the frontend team for most of the summer and only started working on the accounting squad in the last few weeks, and learned a lot from the differences between that and frontend. I wish I had branched out before that.

Advice

It's a great experience, and all the people there are super friendly. I would strongly recommend Spreetail's internship as a way to develop your skills and technical confidence early in your career.

Vendor Management Intern

May - August 2019 • Omaha, NE

What I liked

This internship was full of growth opportunities. Every day brought new challenges and projects that pushed me to stretch my skills and grow. I learned so much, both technical skills and soft skills, over the summer interning at Spreetail. Also, the bonding and connectedness of all of the interns was one of the best parts of the internship and the summer!

Advice

One piece of advice is to be prepared to work a lot and put a lot of effort into the work you are going to be doing. It takes a lot, but it is very rewarding!

Software Engineer Intern

What I liked

The people were great! Everyone was interested in helping me learn and grow as a programmer. I worked right alongside full-time employees and was given meaningful work that challenged me throughout the summer.

What I wish was different

My time there was a little chaotic because Spreetail was going through a lot of changes. They are a very fast moving company so big decisions are made rapidly, which can be a little scary and jarring.

Advice

Spreetail is an excellent company for your first internship. They pay well, and you will learn so much in your time there.

Software Engineering Intern

May - August 2019 • Lincoln, NE

What I liked

I liked working with the people that cared about their work.

What I wish was different

I wish there would have been less intern orientation during the first couple of weeks. I also wish that the culture was better, since some demoralizing events happened. The company trip was cancelled which was promised to interns and there were layoffs at the end of the summer.

Advice

Spreetail will promise interns many things that may not happen. Don't trust them blindly.

What I liked

The culture and the drive of every individual to make a difference in the community.

What I wish was different

The way large issues were handled

Advice

Go in expecting to receive a lot of work. When they say they treat you like a full-time employee, they mean it. That being said, they will recognize you when you produce good work and won't put you down if you need help.

Business Development Intern

May - August 2018 • Lincoln, NE

What I liked

Spreetail gives you an excellent opportunity to get hands on work exxperience that is relevant to the business. For me being in business development I was able to collect price sheets from companies we onboarded and do research to identify opportunities in certain categories or products. After that I was then able to fill out or suggest purchase orders to my manager and more often than not my suggestions would be the final decision we ended up submitting. So it was cool to see how my daily work impacted the overall business throughout the summer.

What I wish was different

I felt that there were times that I felt stuck in my department with no other opportunities. Although, this did get better throughout the summer I still believe that there is opportunity here that they are missing. Other than giving a general overview during the first week it is mostly up to you to identify areas that you are passionate about and seek out people to give you that experience. Overall, I think they do a good job of this but I see a great opportunity to make the process easier for interns to navigate.

Advice

Try NEW things! I can't stress this point enough, although you may be hired on in a position that doesn't necessarily relate to your passion or major doesn't mean that this isn't the job for you. Spreetail is very passionate about their employees and offering them internal opportunities to try new things and bring fresh ideas to people already in these positions. So even if they don't have the exact job you're seeking I'd still apply and network once you get there and people will do everything they can to expose you to the relevant experience you may be looking for!

Marketplace Development Intern

June - August 2018 • Lincoln, NE

What I liked

The people and culture of the company is amazing. Every employee is driven and hungry to learn and develop themselves. This all translates over to the fast paced work and great results. I enjoyed being apart of a team that supported me to be the best I could be. I also got to own my projects and was treated like a full time employee.

What I wish was different

The hours could be extremely daunting, but you got paid a time and a half for overtime!

Advice

Go in ready to learn and open minded. This company operates like no one else.
