User Researcher

June - August 2021 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I liked the company culture, focus on work-life balance, level of autonomy, and constructive feedback from my manager.

What I wish was different

There isn't a direct internship to employee route for interns currently finishing college. Interns who finished their masters/bachelors were able to receive full time offers since Spotify knew the head count for that year. Interns that would be starting over a year from the internship date don't receive offers and have to re-apply to show their continued interest.

Advice

Pay attention to the managerial feedback and try to implement it. This was a great opportunity and I would highly recommend it.

Ad Sales Intern

What I liked

I loved the culture and the environment at Spotify. Everyone I met was so nice and welcoming, and they all made me feel like I could reach out and ask them anything. I also liked that I was able to learn so much about the product and the shows that were offered. I even got to sit in on client meetings which was very cool.

What I wish was different

There's honestly not much that I wished was different, other than I wish there was a more direct post-internship job pipeline. Everyone I worked with was very experienced in the industry and it was clear that there weren't many entry-level opportunities.

Advice

Don't be afraid to speak up in meetings or reach out to anyone you want to meet or get to know!

UX Writer Intern

June - August 2019 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I loved working among the employees and being treated like a full-time Spotifier. I had the opportunity to learn about an industry that I would have never pursued initially. Everyone was very down to earth and eager to share any wisdom they had concerning their roles at Spotify and life in general. The interns were treated really well with tons of perks.

What I wish was different

I wish the payment schedule was a bit clearer and transparent.

Advice

Make sure to really bond with your team while you set up one-on-one meetings with other people in the company. Set up as many as your schedule (and manager) allows!

Partner Solutions Intern

June - August 2017 • New York City, NY

What I liked

They gave me a significant amount of responsibility and I took ownership of real projects.

What I wish was different

There is a relaxed culture that can at times be uncomfortable to navigate if you are used to more formal environments, but that passes after the first couple weeks.

Advice

Be proactive about seeking out projects and providing your input.
