Sporting Kansas City

Operations Intern

May - July 2021 • Kansas City, KS

What I liked

I liked that I got some experience in the sports industry and got to meet a lot of new people and make more connections.

What I wish was different

I wish I had got to do more and expand my horizon in the field some more and met more women.

Advice

I loved the experience and more women should enter the sports industry. But the sports industry is also a very hard place to be considering the sexist comments I got from a few men throughout the summer.

Brand Ambassador Marketing Intern

May - July 2018 • Kansas City, MO

What I liked

I loved the match day presentation and event parts of the internship. There were 4 other interns that worked with me. We were in charge of running events around the Kansas City area to promote the Sporting Kansas City brand.

What I wish was different

I didn't love the layout of the office hours that we had to work during the week. We already worked events on the weekends, and besides sending a few emails to ensure the events would go smoothly, we didn't have a whole lot to do in the office. I would have loved to be a part of the marketing meetings that happened within the department to get a better feel for what events were being worked on.

Advice

My one piece of advice would be don't be afraid to take initiative and have conversations with your boss about how you can best benefit the company in the short time you spend with them. I wish I would have worked with my boss to create more meaningful projects to work on during my time in the office.
