It was great experience working in an actual architectural firm. I was given first hand experience to the various tasks associated with working in an architectural firm. This included work both in the office as well as out in the field. What was really helpful was that Spiezle treated the interns as an asset to be used. Therefore we were able to work on actual design models using the industry standard tools. There were other additional parts of the firm that I got exposure to such as client meetings and working for the marketing department.
What I wish was different
I wish that I had more access to seeing a singular project through the entirety of my internship. That being said, I fully understanding the amount of time it takes for a project to go from start to finish and that is almost always longer than a few months. However, I worked on several projects throughout the summer which had the positive of seeing different jobs, as a result I was more of a floater jumping from project to project.
Advice
I suggest others to try and get an opportunity such as what I had. Although the work Spiezle does is not what I would ideally like to be doing once I graduate, the experience was invaluable and what I learned during my few months there is something that I will carry with me for the rest of my career and life.
