Hostess

What I liked

I really liked the atmosphere. My co-workers and bosses were easy to work with. You also got tips from to-go orders and from servers when you bussed their tables on top of your hourly minimum wage, which is very nice.

What I wish was different

Morning shifts are usually pretty slow, so I wish their was something else to be doing while waiting for customers to come in.

Advice

When the restaurant is busy, make sure to do tasks quickly so you don't become overwhelmed and get a big wait-list of customers.

What I liked

I liked being able to interact with new customers every day and make new friends. I also loved the opportunity to grow in my communication skills, and I can now say that I am better at working hard and staying focused under pressure.

What I wish was different

One thing that I wish had been different was the scheduling. It was sometimes difficult to take time off.

Advice

A piece of advice that I would share from this experience is that it is very important to work in the restaurant business at least one point in your life. It gives you are broader perception of people, and sometimes it's not always good. But you learn a lot about people and how to fake them into giving you a good tip.

What I liked

I️ love my coworkers and management as well as the crowd that we get in this place! It is a very laid back place to work and they have always worked well with my school schedule in high school and at Boise State. Being a server is also great because you get to talk to and meet a lot of different people each and everyday at work which makes it an enjoyable job.

What I wish was different

For working at Old Chicago for three years, one thing I️ with would be different was my seniority of new hires, for example more shifts when I️ need and getting the days off I️ need. Other than that no problems at all.

Advice

If you ever consider serving or waitressing, make sure you can handle stress well and be on your feet for long hours. Shifts can be anywhere between 5-10 hours so be prepared.
