SPARTAN RACE, INC.

Production Intern

May - August 2018 • Boston, MA

What I liked

Everyday was different. A job description could not do my role justice. Each day , a new challenge or task was presented to me. As part of the production team, I was working alongside the team of race project managers, and because of this I really got to be involved in the product being offered to consumers. It was really fun to see something I had worked on actually come to fruition when the race was scheduled weeks later. Because I was being presented with so many different tasks I really got to see everything that went into making these races an operational success.

What I wish was different

I wish I could of taken advantage of more opportunities presented to me. While I was an intern, I was also training for my upcoming cross country season, running a lot of summer miles. Because of this I was a little restricted. I had to turn down an opportunity to run a Spartan Race I helped organized and I also had to turn down an invitation to travel for a race I was invited to work.

Advice

I would say make the most of every task that's presented to you. Sometimes I would be tasked with these crazy projects, but I always made an effort to demonstrate to my managers that I was willing to work hard and go above and beyond. You're not going to like everything you're tasked with, but if you have a really good attitude towards it you can make it fun. Looking back some of these projects were when I got to develop some business skills I wasn't necessarily proficient in before.
