Being able to sit in with chemical dependency and mental health clients and listen to their stories, administering drug screens, interacting with other employees.
What I wish was different
I wish I could have actually discussed with clients about their treatment and give advice moving forward in their treatment, but I am not yet qualified to do that.
Advice
Be inventive and creative. I came into this internship with not a clue on how to develop an activity or an assignment for the clients to do for our final internship presentation. Don't overthink about what you want to create. Think about what you're doing and why you're doing it. Think about your main role as an intern and create something that is your own. I found that taking some time to think of different ideas or projects for clients and making a rough draft of what I wanted to accomplish was greatly appreciated and showed much enthusiasm and effort by your supervisors. They appreciate it more than you know.
