Powerplant Engineering/Planning

May - August 2017 • Dallas, TX

What I liked

Great company culture makes it a fun place to work, work is challenging and meaningful as interns work on current projects with full time employees, and flight benefits are pretty awesome

What I wish was different

Since the internship was so short, I wish I had a better idea of what to expect coming into the internship so that there was not as much of a learning curve

Advice

Network with people from a ton of different fields to gain new perspectives on how the airline operates as well as find potential full time positions

Revenue Management - market pricing strategy intern

May - August 2018 • Dallas, TX

What I liked

Loved my coworkers- easy to talk to and ask for help. They all embraced work hard play hard attitude (as does all of SWA) Loved the flight privileges- they let all employees fly free on standby. Went on 40 flights this summer! Got incredible amounts of professional experience and exposure- they let me in on all projects and meetings, even with senior leadership. Gave a presentation to senior analysts over a huge project I was able to assist. I wasn’t ever given busy work; they had the same expectations for me as they did a full time employee.

What I wish was different

Longer! I never wanted to leave!

Advice

Apply to as many positions as you can. Over 32000 applied for 160 openings. Smile big and show them your personality! They know how to read applications and interview efficiently so they know if you’re qualified, so prove that you have a “fun “LUV-ing” attitude, warrior spirit, and a servants heart! They love someone true to themselves and a team player.
