I had the opportunity to work directly with all team members in every aspect of the work except sales. This allowed me to learn about manufacturing equipment and processes, research and development of new products, important procedures, and professional document writing. The owners and other workers were very kind, accomodating, and friendly. I never felt scared to ask for help or admit that I didn't know something, which made it easy to learn and grow in this role. The owners were very understanding about my school obligations and were flexible in every possible way. They also supported me in applying for the SCIP grant, which paid for my housing during the internship! I would highly recommend this company, they truly care about their interns.
What I wish was different
I think a more thorough onboarding process would have helped me adjust faster. However, the owners agreed and allowed me to spend working hours creating an onboarding document, so I don't foresee this being an issue for anyone else!
Advice
Always bring a piece of paper with you when going to talk to anyone! The ideas flow fast here and I found it helpful to take notes during conversation. Nobody expects every idea to be dealt with right away, but taking notes and transferring them to my task list helped me make sure nothing slipped through the cracks. Don't be afraid to ask which idea/task is most important, or for clarification on the goals of a task!
