I was getting published each week in the paper and was getting on the ground experience with reporting in a news room. It was a great experience with learning how to write on a quick deadline and report on breaking news.
What I wish was different
My editor would have had more time to help teach me more skills, verses just editing my work. But it was just the two us writing an entire paper basically, so it was understandable.
Advice
Be proactive with your internship searching. I just called local publications until one agreed to hire me, I didn't wait for ones to be advertised.
