About Smithsonian Science Education Center

The SSEC was established in 1985 as the National Science Resources Center (NSRC) under the sponsorship of two prestigious institutions: the Smithsonian Institution and the National Academy of Sciences. In 2012, our name changed to the Smithsonian Science Education Center to reflect our mission: to transform and improve the learning and teaching of science for preK-8 students. We are dedicated to the establishment of effective science programs for all students.

“We had plenty of time for individual work as well as networking with other Smithsonian interns and heads of departments. I was introduced to the idea of "Big" Smithsonian and "little" Smithsonian which showed how even the smallest sectors of an institution still reach and affect people. It was also my first time working with Adobe applications and I feel that I could apply my teachings to making graphics for schoolwork and my various organizations. My supervisors were always encouraging and I felt very safe and appreciated every day. ”
