I had an amazing experience working at SLRC! After working here, I walked away with personal growth, practical experience, an improved resume/cover letter, and exposure to the hospitality industry. I was able to gain insight into various sectors, including front desk operations, event planning, and tourism marketing. I really enjoyed working under the SLRC management team. They are extremely committed to their interns in which they devote lots of their busy time to each interns professional growth.

Hospitality and Marketing Intern
May - September 2023 • Mears, MI
What I liked
This internship is a great opportunity to learn more about hospitality and working at a front desk so it was a good experience for me. You also learn a lot about customer service. Things are very organized for the interns so you have an exceptional enviorment to be in! The managers consider what you want to gain from the experience and see how they can help you achieve those goals. Another one of my favorite parts was the mentoring aspect instead of it just being a job! Don, Sarah and Tammi truly care about their employees and are such great bosses!
What I wish was different
There isn't really much I would change except to stay longer.
Advice
If you have the opportunity, take the job! Figure out what you want out of an internship and communicate that to them. Overall, this was an amazing job!

Whether it was normal communication work throughout the store/doing reservations, or my projects related to HR work, everything was benefical to what I came here for! I am so grateful to of had this opportunity to work here. Don, Sarah, Tammi, and Joe are amazing! I would definitely recommend doing a summer internship here!

Advice
My one piece of advice is to work as much as you can. This is an internship, but it's also a summer business. Not only is It important to remember that you need to do/learn as much as you can in such little time. It's also important to remember that SLRC is only open for 5 months, and its best to help out the business/your fellow interns by working when you can. ...annddd Tammi as well :) Love you Tammi lol

Ask questions! It's the best way to learn, and don't be afraid to be wrong. Think about what you want to learn about (marketing, management, tourism, etc) and figure out how you can incorporate it there; it will make your experience so much better!
If you're living there for the summer, I would highly suggest exploring the area. There are so many beautiful spots!
There is so much that you can get out of this internship; don't limit yourself and be open to learning (and laughter).
